Keating Junior High Junior High School District No. 20 (Keating), 215 E. Orman

This school, opened in 1929, became Keating Junior High after Superintendent Keating died in October 1937. Closed as a junior high in the fall of 1982, it is now the District 60 Keating Education Center.

J.F. Keating, serving District 20 for nearly four decades, was responsible for setting up Pueblo schools according to the Platoon System, whereby some classes took the three Rs in Home Rooms while other classes went to special rooms for music, art, social studies, auditorium, gym, etc. The procedure was then reversed, with the latter groups occupying the Home Rooms. The classes moved orderly, as “platoons,” between rooms. This system was developed during the early 1900s.
