Devil’s Head Ornament atop Arthur Castle Devil’s Head Ornament atop Arthur Castle

Arthur’s Castle was constructed at First and Santa Fe in 1889 by blacksmith/wagon maker John Arthur. In 1915, Frank J. Burch put up a building to house the manufacture of tents and awnings that adjoined the castle on two sides. The company later became the Pueblo Tent & Awning Co. owned by the Anton family. In 1976, the castle was torn down by the Tent & Awning company. The owner by that time was Henry “Hank” Anton, Jr., who presented the devil’s head ornament to the Pueblo County Historical Society for preservation. The metal ornament is presently in storage but will be on display at some future date.
